Principal Function:
The Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries shall develop programming, fellowship, service, witness
and worship opportunities for children, youth and families which honor God and promote full integration of
children, youth and young adults into the life of Grace UMC.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) or commensurate experience in ministry.

  • Display a love for and belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

  • Exhibit a passion for faith development, particularly with children and youth.

  • Have a calling to the position as a ministry and not simply as a job.

  • Be a team-player, working with staff and volunteers to maximize the success of the ministry.

  • Possess strong communication skills.

  • Be generally knowledgeable about worship, presentation and social media technologies.

  • United Methodist background preferred, but candidate must be supportive of the standards, theology and polity of the United Methodist Church in general and of Grace UMC specifically.

  • Specific certifications desired but not required (CPR, First Aid, AED, CDL, etc.).

  • Appropriate clearances.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Foster safe, inviting and engaging ministry environments for children, youth, young adults and families year-round.

  • Recruit, train, equip, empower and nurture volunteers to aid in ongoing ministries and maintain records of volunteers.

  • Welcome, connect with and resource families new to Grace Church as well as those already affiliated with Grace Church.

  • Coordinate specific regular ministries including (but not limited to) Impact, VBS, Youth Groups, Confirmation (coordinated with the Pastor), retreats, mission opportunities and outings.

  • Be available to teach Sunday School and to share Children’s Sermons on occasion.

  • Work closely with a Family Ministries Board with monthly meetings and regular communication.

  • Work with the Education Committee and Discipleship leaders to coordinate ministries.

  • Participate in bi-monthly staff meetings.

  • Participate fully in the life of the congregation including weekly worship attendance and presence at special events as appropriate, attendance at local school and community events as available.

  • Connect with the community as a Christian witness.

  • Communicate ministry offerings for children, youth and families with sufficient notice and clarity.

  • Prepare an annual budget for ministry areas and programming.

  • Maintain supplies and equipment necessary for ministry and programming as provided by Grace Church.​

Administration and Ministry Teams:

  • Bi-monthly staff meetings.

  • Monthly Family Ministries Board meetings.

  • Education Committee.

  • Childcare Board and Preschool Board.​

Media and Technology Responsibilities:

  • Proficiency with various social media platforms (Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook), maintaining appropriate boundaries.

  • Strong computer skills desired.

  • A general knowledge of sound systems, projection systems, presentation software and other technologies associated with worship.

  • Singing and/or Instrumental abilities desired but not required.​
